MIAMI, FL – April 21, 2020 – IMC Health Medical Centers is assisting low-income seniors in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties during this crisis by providing their most basic daily need—a meal on their table. The medical group is delivering more than 750 meals each day to support those in the community who need the most help.

“After we migrated the majority of our visits to telehealth, we began to call each member to see how they were coping with the virus,” said IMC Health CEO Bill Lamoreaux. “They expressed feelings of fear, anxiety and loneliness as well as the need for basic items such as food. Our immediate reaction was to deliver them fresh meals.”

When IMC Health first started delivering meals, it was providing food to about 300 members. In just two weeks that number has risen to more than 750 as a result of IMC Health’s desire to expand its community outreach efforts.

In addition to the meals, all IMC Health Medicare members – whose average age is 74 – are about to get a special delivery. The medical group received a major donation from and is distributing reusable surgical masks to all 11,000 members.

“We know that the public is having a hard time finding masks.  In our conversations with IMC, we understood that patients were concerned about not having them and experiencing anxiety as a result,” said CEO Sai Koppaka. “We are pleased that we were able to step in and provide them for this vulnerable population.”

The masks will be delivered to patient homes along with a note from IMC Health’s Chief Medical Officer, Mayda Antun M.D., with instructions on how to safely use and reuse the mask and a contact number for any questions.

IMC’s 13 medical centers remain open but the company has converted the majority of its 200+ daily patient interactions to telehealth; capability it did not have prior to the COVID crisis. IMC Health is striving to serve its patients in any way they can.

“We are looking forward to the day we return to normal operations including giving patients access to all of the activity and services normally provided,” said Lamoreaux. “But for now, offering them safety, nourishment and comfort during this difficult time, is our number one priority.”
